UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman went under the knife to repair an injury suffered before his most recent title defense.
Three weeks before facing Colby Covington at UFC 268, Usman revealed he broke his right hand. The injury did not delay the fight, and Usman would go on to use his hand well en route to a unanimous decision victory.
On Monday evening, UFC president Dana White shared graphic images of Usman’s procedure to repair ligament damage. Check out the images below if you’re curious about what the inside of a UFC champion’s hand looks like (via Instagram):
Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz told ESPN that the champ will be really to return to action for International Fight Week in July, which will play host to UFC 276. Whether or not Usman competes at the event is unclear. His next opponent is uncertain as well, although Abdelaziz has suggested a move up to middleweight to challenge Israel Adesanya, even though the two men are friends.
