Kamaru Usman rejects Jake Paul bout and tells YouTuber he's not a "real fighter"

Kamaru Usman has laughed off the prospect of fighting YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

The UFC welterweight champion has one eye on switching to the boxing ring and is targeting a fight with pound-for-pound No.1 Canelo Alvarez.

He has also been called out by Paul who has amassed a record of 5-0 since turning professional in 2020.

But when Usman was asked by a fan if he was interested in taking on the 25-year-old, he dismissed the idea.

"What? Boo this man one time," he said. "Listen, listen, if we’re going to fight, we’re going to fight a real fight. I’m going to answer your question, if we’re going to fight, we’re going to fight a real fighter. A real fighter."

Paul's promotional outfit Most Valuable Promotions responded to Usman by reminding him that he had previously called out the unbeaten boxer.

"Just another UFC fighter who signed a bad deal and now trying to make a real payday. He called out JAKE in May of last year," read a tweet.

Usman told TMZ last year that he would "beat the s***" out of Paul before adding on social media: "I understand you think this is a game which is probably why you don’t realise that this is how people truly get hurt."

Paul took him up on the offer, replying: "Challenge accepted... if your boss Dana [White] gives you permission to box me and make more money than you ever have, let me know and we can lace them up. I promise it will be your biggest pay day."

Paul is currently taking a break from the ring following his sixth-round stoppage of former UFC 170lb champion Tyron Woodley in their rematch last December.

He is concentrating on promoting stablemate Amanda Serrano's undisputed world title clash with Katie Taylor which takes place in New York on April 30.

Usman, meanwhile, claims he will fight Alvarez in September, despite the Mexican signing a two-fight deal with Eddie Hearn.

He will first face Dmitry Bivol on May 7 before settling his trilogy with Gennady Golovkin on September 17.

But Usman told TMZ: "In 2022 I'm going to shock the world. July, International Fight Week, I'm gonna fight Leon Edwards.

"God willing I get through Leon Edwards, September, Mexican Independence Day, I will stop Canelo Alvarez.

"Absolutely I see myself winning the fight, everything can't be done until it's done. We're talking nine figures, for sure."

Alvarez has not ruled out a future clash but insists he is focused on securing his legacy in the sport.
