Kamaru Usman was disappointed to see Conor McGregor mention his daughter in a tweet after watching him lose the UFC welterweight title last month.
Usman was brutally knocked out by a head kick from Leon Edwards at UFC 278, losing his world title as well as his first fight in the promotion. His daughter was sitting at cageside and had to be taken from the arena in tears after watching her father suffer a vicious loss, which caught the attention of McGregor.
The Irishman noted a tweet about Usman's daughter and took to social media to send a message to other fighters with families warning them not to bring them to fights. McGregor most recently told his wife Dee Devlin and three kids to stay at home when he fought Dustin Poirier, and will continue as such going forward.
“I feel this deep," McGregor said. "I do not suggest bringing family whatsoever. Especially the children. This is different fighting. I’ve done both sides of this and feel going to the mission solo is best. You can see family again post battle. Will definitely be continuing this way going forward.”
But Usman feels that McGregor's response to the incident was out of line and questioned how his rival could stoop to such a low during a recent interview with Joe Rogan. The former champion says his heart was broken when he saw the footage, but is unsure why McGregor would tweet about it.
“The camera pans into the audience and they showed my daughter," he said on the latest episode of Rogan's MMA show. "My daughter cried and it was the weirdest thing. It was an instant trigger response. My heart, I wanted to cry just seeing that from her.

“Conor tweeted something, kind of blasting me for bringing her to the fight and this and that. He tweeted some mean things and it’s just like, ‘How low are people sometimes?’ Absolutely, I’m going to bring her. My daughter is not only going to see when Daddy is victorious, Daddy gets to beat everybody and Daddy gets to put her in the best school or wherever she wants to be.
“I am blessed right now with an opportunity to show my daughter that, ‘Look, you can fall down and look how you can get back up.’ To see people like Conor, who actually does have children, say something like that, it was like, ‘Man, you’re missing the mark big time, bro.’ You’re missing it big time.”
Usman is expected to be given an immediate rematch against Edwards that could land at Wembley Stadium, while McGregor is still recovering from a broken leg. The Irishman is stablemates at Paradigm sports management with Edwards, and likely would rather face Usman than his pal if he were to get a massive name comeback fight next year.
