Kamaldeen Sulemana profiled as Stade Rennes winger linked with Newcastle United transfer

Stade Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana is the latest attacker to have been linked with a move to Tyneside this summer.

According to MailOnline, Newcastle have enquired about the Ghanaian international's availability as they seek to strengthen and bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The early additions of Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Sven Botman saw the Magpies get their summer window off to a flying start. It was a refreshing change to how the club previously did business under former owner Mike Ashley.

However, their attempts to improve at the top end of the pitch have been frustrated, largely in part to the inflated fees clubs are quoting Newcastle for their players.

It means the Magpies are going to have to continue to act shrewdly and explore as many avenues in the transfer market as possible.

And links to Sulemana are an example of these avenues being explored. The 20-year-old winger is an exciting prospect, who has already made 11 appearances for his country.

If you want to see just what Sulemana is capable of, take a look at the embedded tweet above.

"This is typically his characteristics: he is enthusiastic, carefree, runs fast, deadly," said Sulemana's manager Bruno Genesio following Rennes 3-0 win over Metz last October.

"He gives us a lot of pleasure, and he is pleasant to lead because he always comes to training with a smile to work.

"He has a lot of freshness, he is 19 years old and has made an incredible start to the season."

He wasn't wrong either.

Following his move from FC Nordsjaelland last summer, Sulemana enjoyed a strong start to his first season in Ligue 1.

Comfortable playing off both wings, he bagged four goals and two assists in his first 13 domestic appearances for Rennes, even scoring on his debut against Lens.

A back injury in late February curtailed his season early. While he did make it back onto the bench for Rennes final game of the season against Lille, the winger missed over three months of action.

He does have four years left on his current deal with Rennes and given they signed him for £17m last summer, it's unlikely he will come cheap.

But Sulemana could be a real wildcard when it comes to improving Newcastle's attack. Of course, he could take sometime to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. But the reality is, the 20-year-old is electric.
