Local law enforcement in Las Vegas closed the doors to Kamala Harris’ Saturday rally early after people waiting in line were falling ill from extreme heat, the campaign informed reporters. The Harris campaign stated that law enforcement made the decision to close the doors in the last hour as thousands of people were waiting in line to enter the rally.
The closure was attributed to people becoming ill while waiting outside in the scorching 109-degree heat to go through security. Ambulances and medical professionals were present at the scene as attendees entered the venue. Harris campaign staff distributed water bottles and fans to those in line, and some sections of the line were sheltered by tents and cooled by large fans. Individuals were seen receiving medical attention for heat-related illnesses outside the venue.
Despite the challenging conditions, a large crowd awaited Harris’ remarks on Saturday evening, although there were noticeable empty seats ahead of the event.
