Kamala Harris Loses Key Senate Endorsement For One Reason

Despite Joe Manchin disclosing just days ago that he "could see" himself endorsing a candidate, he confirmed on Tuesday it won't be Kamala Harris following her latest announcement.

During a Wisconsin Public Radio interview, Harris confirmed that she supports eliminating the 60-vote legislative filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade after the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion in 2023.

Following the revelation, Senator Joe Manchin told CNN his backing Harris "ain't gonna happen."

"Shame on her," Manchin said. "She knows the filibuster is the Holy Grail of democracy. It's the only thing that keeps us talking and working together. If she gets rid of that, then this would be the House on steroids."

Eliminating the filibuster would lower the number of votes needed to advance legislation from 60 to a simple majority of 51. Manchin, who will not seek re-election in the Senate in November, added that plans to end the filibuster are "the most horrible thing."

"I think that basically can destroy our country, and my country is more important to me than any one person or any one person's ideology," Manchin said.

Manchin, who left the Democratic Party to register as an independent earlier this year, was then asked about Harris's past support for ending the filibuster.

"Well, she said she supported banning fracking too, and she changed that. I was hoping she would change this," Manchin told CNN.
