Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign has announced that it has raised an impressive $540 million for the upcoming election battle against Republican nominee former President Donald Trump. The campaign has experienced strong support from donors, particularly after President Joe Biden ended his campaign on July 21 and endorsed Harris. Following the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Harris and her vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, accepted their nominations, the campaign witnessed a surge in donations.

According to a memo released by the campaign, just before Vice President Harris' acceptance speech, the fundraising total surpassed $500 million. The campaign saw a significant increase in donations immediately after her speech, marking their best fundraising hour since the launch day. While Trump has also been successful in fundraising, Harris seems to have outpaced him in her month-old campaign.

Trump's campaign and its affiliates reported raising $138.7 million in July, significantly less than Harris' initial fundraising total. At the beginning of August, Trump's campaign disclosed having $327 million in cash on hand. The funds raised by the Harris campaign were attributed to Harris for President, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees.

The campaign chair highlighted that nearly one-third of contributions during the convention week came from first-time donors. Among these new contributors, approximately one-fifth were young voters and two-thirds were women, demographics that the campaign considers crucial for Harris to secure victory in November. Additionally, the campaign has observed a surge in volunteer support for the vice president, with supporters signing up for nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts during convention week to assist the campaign.
