Kalvin Phillips set for Man City medical as Nathan Ake stance confirmed

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Thursday, June 30.

Phillips set for City medical

Kalvin Phillips will undergo his Manchester City medical on Friday ahead of a £45m transfer.

The Premier League champions last week agreed a fee with Leeds that will see them pay an initial £42m with a further £3m in additional payments related to bonuses. Phillips had been earmarked as the replacement for Fernandinho, who left this summer on a free transfer after nine years at the club.

As previously reported, Phillips is expected to start pre-season with the Blues and a medical is one of the final stages to be completed before the transfer can be finalised. With that set for Friday, there is no change to when the player is expected to join City.

Ake stance revealed

Manchester City would not consider letting Nathan Ake go this summer without having a replacement lined up.

Ake is the latest player to be targeted by Chelsea as new owner Todd Boehly looks to get them challenging for the Premier League title again. The West London club are in negotiations with City over a price for Raheem Sterling with the forward having been tempted by Thomas Tuchel's plans for him.

Reports in the Telegraph claim that Chelsea are confident of bringing Ake back to Stamford Bridge — where he came through as a professional before leaving to join Bournemouth permanently. They are in need of central defenders after seeing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave on free transfers this summer.
