Kalvin Phillips makes Man City admission as youngster seals first loan move

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Tuesday, July 11.

Phillips makes City admission

Midfield enforcer Kalvin Phillips has suggested that it is not unusual for a player to find it difficult to get into a rhythm in their first season at Manchester City.

The England international, who joined City from Leeds United last summer, experienced a challenging maiden campaign at the Etihad Stadium. He made just 21 appearances in all competitions, 17 of which were from the substitutes bench.

He struggled to dislodge Rodri from the defensive-midfield berth, meaning questions have already been raised about his future at the club during this month's transfer window. He played just 12 times in the Premier League last term, starting only twice.

Despite the frustration, Phillips is determined to put last season's struggles behind him and make up for lost time. And the midfielder added that he is refusing to get too downbeat, pointing to how other City players, including Jack Grealish, have struggled to make a name for themselves in their first season at the Etihad Stadium.

Breckin leaves City on loan

Wycombe Wanderers claim they have beaten off stiff competition to secure Manchester City midfielder Kian Breckin on a season-long loan deal.

Breckin, 19, leaves City for his first taste of senior football, after playing a key role in the under-21s' title-winning campaign last season. The central midfielder stepped up from the under-18s to make 24 appearances, registering eight goals and four assists.

He also played every minute of City's EFL Trophy campaign against Football League opposition, including the impressive 3-1 win away at Derby. He started all but one league game until the title was won for Brian Barry-Murphy's side, before being rested for the final two games of the campaign.

Now, Breckin will get a first taste of senior football at Adams Park, with Wycombe hoping to build on their ninth-placed finish in League One last season. Their manager Matt Bloomfield was delighted to secure Breckin's signing, and thanked City for their support in making the loan happen.
