Summer signing Kalvin Phillips has hailed the mindset of the Manchester City squad, describing it as “different” to what he has experienced before.
The midfielder sealed a move from hometown club Leeds last month, with whom he battled against relegation last season. He is now set to play Champions League football next season and is backed to flourish under Pep Guardiola.
Phillips knew some of his new City teammates — such as Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker and John Stones — from his time with England. But he has admitted he has been impressed by the attitude of the team as a whole upon his arrival.

Speaking to GQ during City’s pre-season tour of the United States, he said: “I didn't realise what Man City was like before I came here, but just the way that they are and everything that we've got, everything they work to achieve. It's just different.
“Even with the players, how they are, they come in and they want to win. They don't want to lose, they want to win all the time. Obviously, footballers want to win, but I've never noticed it so much here in a football team.”
