Kajillionaire: Evan Rachel Wood has a magical revelation in exclusive clip from Miranda July comedy

Photograph: Matt Kennedy

Evan Rachel Wood has an existential epiphany in this exclusive clip from her strange and beautiful new film Kajillionaire, which marks the return of visionary filmmaker Miranda July.

Wood stars as the daughter of a pair of not-very-good con artists (Richard Jenkins and Debra Winger), who barely make a living from dumpster-diving and low-stakes grifting.

Their unusual dynamic is punctured by the arrival of Gina Rodriguez’s vivacious Melanie, who is roped in to aid with a con, and upends the trio.

In this exclusive clip, Wood’s character tells a grocery store clerk how she would spend her perfect day, following an apocalyptic experience in a public toilet that radically alters her perception of life.

It’s a wonderfully eccentric moment in the film from July, whose credits include the cult comedy Me and You and Everyone We Know.

Kajillionaire is released in cinemas on Friday 9 October, and is also playing at this month’s London Film Festival.
