Kai Havertz to Chelsea: Bayer Leverkusen star drops biggest hint of transfer yet

Kai Havertz has fuelled talk of a move to Chelsea after liking a tweet directed at the club instructing them to "announce" the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen star.

The in-demand 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to London and Chelsea, with manager Frank Lampard striving to make significant additions this summer.

Chelsea have already confirmed the signings of both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, with Lampard also targetting a move for Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell.

After Chelsea confirmed Werner's signing on Twitter, one fan responded by saying: 'Announce Havertz'. Blues fans were certainly dealt a surprise when the midfielder subsequently liked the tweet.

German publication Bild have reported the Blues to have held 'concrete talks' over a move for the versatile midfielder, while Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also keeping an eye on the situation.

Havertz has been in fine form following the Bundesliga's return, now scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 28 league games this season.

And with the midfielder one of the most sought after youngsters in world football. Leverkusen managing director Fernando Caro raised eyebrows after paving the way for him to leave in the coming months.

"I see that many clubs are interested in him [Havertz]," Caro told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger in Germany. "I see the player’s desire to take the next step in the near future."

It must be said that liking a tweet is somewhat less binding than signing a contract. But with Lampard already securing two high-profile signings ahead of next season, Chelsea fans may feel anything is possible.

And while the acquisitions of both Werner and Ziyech have already provided a statement of intent, a further addition of Havertz would really send a warning to the rest of Europe.
