Kai Havertz Injury Update: German A Doubt For Arsenal vs Chelsea

Kai Havertz is facing a race against time to feature in Chelsea vs Arsenal, after the German suffered a head injury against Inter.

Will Kai Havertz Play Against Chelsea?

Mikel Arteta revealed the latest on the current injury crisis within the Arsenal squad ahead of their trip to Chelsea – including an update on Kai Havertz.

The German was forced off in the 93rd minute in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Inter in the Champions League, following a nasty cut on the side of his head.

So far this season, the Arsenal star has struggled to continue the fine form in which he ended the 2023/24 campaign – scoring just four goals in 10 Premier League matches.

Havertz is not the only one who was forced off with injury at the San Siro, as Mikel Merino came off at half time and Arteta gave an update on both during his presser.

Arteta said: “We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see how they react. Kai had quite a nasty cut and he could not continue. With Mikel, to be fair the day before he wasn’t feeling great and we decided to sub him at half-time.”

Declan Rice is also a doubt as the England international continues to recover from a toe injury, but Martin Odegaard could make his first start in the league since September.

The Norwegian came on for Havertz in the Champions League which will be a huge boost for the Gunners, as they have struggled to find form in recent weeks.

A defeat to Chelsea on Sunday would make it three consecutive defeats in all competitions and three matches without a win in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Arsenal have made similar starts to their Premier League campaigns, picking up 18 points from the opening 10 matches – but UK betting sites have the Gunners as slight favourites ahead of their Super Sunday meeting.
