Kai Havertz goal, Conor Gallagher assist- How Chelsea stars fared on international break so far

Chelsea players on the whole fared a lot better on Saturday than they did during Friday's international fixtures.

Jorginho and Edouard Mendy had suffered massive setbacks with their respective nations with North Macedonia knocking Italy out of World Cup 2022 contention - a result that the midfielder admitted will 'haunt' him for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah's Egypt enacted revenge on Mendy's Senegal with a 1-0 win in their first leg of their World Cup qualifier.

A day on and many more Chelsea first-team players and loanees featured for their respective nations in international friendlies and football.london rounds up what happened to these players.

Conor Gallagher gives Gareth Southgate a headache

The midfielder was one of the star players for the Three Lions in their tight 2-1 win over Switzerland. Southgate's side had gone 1-0 down in the early parts of the first half but Gallagher set up Luke Shaw's equalising goal before the break.

The Palace loanee was taken off after the hour mark but received plenty of praise post-match from Harry Kane, Gareth Southgate and Jamie Redknapp, with Southgate enjoying the Chelsea youngster's display. "He is infectious. He can set the tone for the rest of the team, you see that with his club and he presses with ambition," the England manager told Sky Sports.

"He goes and makes contact and turns a lot of the ball over. To a degree, we are trying to work through the two games and manage the players. It has been a bizarre week with everything going on. We feel Mason Mount and Gallagher press well but can leave us vulnerable to the switch, the Swiss worked that out. We had an idea of what we wanted to do, we would have wanted Bukayo Saka to have a look at that."

German duo score

Both Kai Havertz and Timo Werner netted in Germany's comfortable 2-0 victory over Israel. The Chelsea duo started for Hansi Flick's side but were withdrawn late on and it certainly wasn't a surprise to see the Blues' false nine net yet again amid red hot form at club level.

For Die Mannschaft, in 23 games he has featured for his country with 18 of those as a starter, he has racked up 18 goals and assists so far and has averaged a goal involvement every 75 minutes to date. For Werner, his goal will come as a big confidence boost for a player that hasn't been heavily involved under Tuchel in recent weeks. At least he has shown he can grab a goal with his last strike for Chelsea coming more than six games ago when the Blues knocked out Luton Town in the FA Cup.

Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta vs Armando Broja

Spain versus Albania was a closely contested fixture but a late Dani Olmo wonder strike was enough to separate the two sides in the end after Myrto Uzuni had cancelled out Ferran Torres' 75th-minute strike. Chelsea's second choice left-back had featured from the start and created quite a few chances and had one himself in the first half with his teammate Cesar Azpilicueta featuring from the bench.

On the other side, Armando Broja had a very quiet game with the Southampton striker having zero shots on David Raya's goal throughout the 84 minutes that he played.

Forgotten man scores

Does anyone remember 2016 title winner Michy Batshuayi?

The Belgian had struggled at Chelsea to nail down a first-team spot and this had led to the striker finding game time elsewhere at numerous clubs over the past few season's with Besiktas his most recent loan.

Despite seemingly having no future at Stamford Bridge, the loanee continues to produce for Roberto Martinez' side, scoring the opener in their 2-2 away draw against Ireland.

He tweeted after the game: "Love always."
