Kai Havertz gives eight-word verdict after what Chelsea star did for Germany

Chelsea striker Kai Havertz has continued to impress in recent weeks for the Blues, earning a place as one of the first names on the team sheet every matchday. His performances have been much-needed for Thomas Tuchel and his men, creating a comfortable gap to the sides chasing a top four finish this season.

The 22-year-old has scored six goals and assisted three in 20 Premier League appearances, taking his tally of goals across all competitions to 11, joint top with Romelu Lukaku. Despite the arrival of the Belgian in the summer for a club-record fee, it’s actually been Havertz in recent weeks that has led the line.

Discussing his importance earlier this month, Tuchel said to the media: “Nobody is undroppable but if he [Kai Havertz] plays like this, he stepped up in his mentality in his game. He is very good and has a huge influence physically and from his quality in our game.

“He is very important, in a good shape, he turned things around for himself. He was strong in the beginning of the season then a few weeks ago had a spell where he was not so involved like we feel he is now.

“He fought his way out, full credit to him. It is the right mentality, he shows how important he can be. It is very important to us.”

The Germany international has become known for his big-game moments, such as scoring the winners in the Champions League and Club World Cup final. However, the consistency Havertz has been showing is closer to what Tuchel will be wanting from him across a whole campaign.

His goal scoring form has not only been kept at club level though, with his finish against Israel leading his national side to a 2-0 win in the friendly. After the game, Havertz took to Twitter to give his verdict on the game.

He said: “Always good to be back playing in Germany.”

Those of a Chelsea persuasion will certainly be hoping he can come back as fit as possible after the international break, with games against Real Madrid in the Champions League and Crystal Palace in the FA Cup still to come. If he can continue his form of late going into those games, the Blues will have a fine chance of reaching a final again this season.
