Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Romeo Lavia and Arsenal's summer transfers affected by FIFA ruling

As far as transfer strategies go, Arsenal signing players with Premier League experience is proving to be a successful one.

A double deal for Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer helped to transform the Gunners from top-four hopefuls to title contenders, and despite ultimately finishing runners-up to Manchester City in the season just gone, Jorginho and Leandro Trossard hit the ground running immediately after joining in January.

When also factoring in the arrivals of Benjamin White and Aaron Ramsdale the previous summer and the instant impact they had, it's clear that signing players from within the top flight of English football has its advantages. And it just so happens that Arsenal's main targets at present all have this in common.

Declan Rice remains Mikel Arteta's priority signing despite the Gunners seeing an opening offer rejected by West Ham United. Furthermore, football.london understands Chelsea's Kai Havertz is a genuine target and there have been links to Romeo Lavia, Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo and Moises Caicedo.

Of the six mentioned, in a dream scenario, Arsenal can complete deals for all but one. This is because, as per FIFA's ruling, the summer transfer window officially opened on Wednesday (June 14) and players signed made from Premier League, EFL and Scottish teams can be registered right now.

Therefore, if the north London outfit, for example, were to agree a deal for Rice they would be in a position to register him immediately and the same applies to potential deals for Lavia, Havertz and Cancelo as they all ply their trade in the top flight of English football.

Although if deals for players from the French, Italian, German or Spanish leagues such as Ivan Fresneda and Moussa Diaby are secured before the end of the month, those moves can be agreed in principle but can't be officially completed until July 1 when the international transfer window opens - the same day Gundogan, who has been included on Man City's release list - would see his contract come into effect if he does move to the Emirates Stadium.

Despite no confirmation on any new signings just yet, the Gunners have been active behind the scenes having already tied-down Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka to new deals, reaching a verbal agreement with William Saliba and offering Reiss Nelson a new contract.

Meanwhile, in terms of confirmed departures, Arsenal announced their release list on Friday and it included Ainsley Maitland-Niles as well as academy prospects Matt Smith, Joel Ideho and Tom Smith as they will all officially leave the club when their contracts expire on June 30.
