Kabir Khan opens up about his interfaith marriage with wife Mini Mathur; reveals the reactions of their families

Bollywood filmmaker Kabir Khan, who has been happily married to Mini Mathur for 25 years now, recently opened up about having an inter-religious marriage. The director also spoke about the reactions of their families.

Kabir said that he was brought up in an inter-religious family and that his parents' love story is a film script waiting to happen. The filmmaker also revealed that his kids have been brought up in a way that is very similar to his growing-up years.

Sharing that he is an atheist, Kabir said that he and Mini have never really pushed their kids towards any religion but have encouraged them to find their own path. According to him, the way they have brought up their children, is also the way he was brought up. They never really tried to push them in a direction. They let them celebrate and follow whatever they had a passion for. That’s the way you find your path, Kabir told Humans of Bombay.

Kabir also went on to add that when they initially thought about getting married, Mini expected some opposition from her extended family, but they faced none. According to him, Mini comes from a very traditional Mathur family. Religion was never really an issue, and initially, Mini thought that there would be an issue in trying to convince her extended family, but it’s just so beautiful how they all accepted him. He also added that, speaking about his own family, Kabir said that, since his family was already interfaith, there wasn’t much resistance.

They had a wedding, did rituals on both sides, more for the families than for themselves. Kabir also revealed that he is actually an atheist, so he doesn't really truly believe in God or religion, so it was very easy for him to accept all that. He added that they have had many fights, and lots of issues, but religion has never been one of them.
