Juventus plot shock Chelsea £85m transfer as Mason Mount contract talks stall over salary demand

Chelsea star Mason Mount is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2024 with talks over a renewal being paused whilst he was away with England at the World Cup in Qatar. The Three Lions suffered quarter-final heartbreak as they lost 2-1 to reigning world champions, France.

The English midfielder has been one of the standout performers this season, particularly since Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in charge at Chelsea. Mount has registered eight goal contributions in 21 appearances and will now head out to Qatar for the World Cup after being included in Gareth Southgate's England squad.

One of the key stumbling blocks Todd Boehly has faced in negotiations has been the length of the new deal, football.london understands. Contract talks are set to continue once Mount returns to Cobham ahead of the Premier League resuming on Boxing Day, but a deal is still someway off being finalised.

Mount is valued at €100million (£85million) by CIES Football Observatory with the 23-year-old considered to be one of the most talented players at Chelsea. Liverpool and Juventus are both thought to be monitoring his current situation at Stamford Bridge and the Italian giants are planning a shock transfer plan to secure a deal for Mount.

According to Calciomercato, Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri is keen on signing the Chelsea midfielder in next summer's transfer window. The Bianconeri are said to be planning 'an assault' for Mount at the end of the season as they attempt to raise funds by selling three key players.

The first is Leandro Paredes, who is on-loan from Paris Saint-Germain, but it is stated that he will not be signed permanently by the Serie A giants through the option to buy they have in his contract. Weston McKennie also appears to be set for a move away from Turin, with the United States international set to be 'sold to raise cash'.

The final player that could be on his way out is Adrien Rabiot, who recently made his desire to play in the Premier League clear during the World Cup in Qatar. His contract expires at the end of the season and there is doubt over whether he will be offered a new deal, with Juventus prepared to sell the France star after his failed move to Manchester United earlier this year.

Mount is said to have already rejected a new seven-year deal, and is also hoping for a higher base salary that represents his importance to the club after Chelsea switched their stance to offer more incentive-based deals to their star players. The England international has made it clear he sees his future at Stamford Bridge and rejecting a lengthy contract may not indicate that he is already eyeing a potential exit from Chelsea in the future, it may instead just be a bargaining tactic to negotiate an improved deal in the coming years.
