Juventus celebrate Allianz Stadium anniversary over a decade on from Notts County friendly

On September 8 in 2011, Juventus inaugurated their renovated stadium in a fabulous event that also featured a friendly between Antonio Conte’s men and Notts County.

And it was Martin Allen's Notts who spoiled the party in Turin, when Lee Hughes' late equaliser cancelled out Luca Toni's opener during celebration of the clubs' 108-year link after the Bianconeri decided to adopt the black and white colours worn by the Magpies.

It was John Savage, an Englishman playing for Juventus, who arranged for replacement shirts to be sent to the Italian club by a Notts-supporting friend back hom in 1903, and they have worn the black and white stripes ever since.

Since then, the Allianz Stadium has been associated with one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, with The Old Lady dominating Italian football for nine consecutive seasons.

Juve's ground remains the most modern stadium in Italian football and a strong fortress for the club, despite its recent regress and Luke Williams' men beginning to build a fortress of their own at Meadow Lane this season.

After an unbeaten start to the National League season, Notts have taken seven points from their opening three games in front of their home fans with another stern test in Bromley to come this weekend.
