Justin Thomas taunts LIV Golf with brutal comment over quality compared to PGA Tour

Justin Thomas has aimed a brutal dig at LIV Golf after they hit out at the PGA Tour over radical changes made to next year's schedule.

Among those changes was the announcement of 'elevated' events with reduced fields and no midway cut. In response to the announcement LIV, who run similar no-cut events, tweeted: "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Congratulations PGA Tour. Welcome to the future."

Thomas, however, hit back at LIV and insisted there is "a lot more going on" than just the elevated no-cut events. When asked about the difference between the two, Thomas took a shot at the quality of LIV's field.

"Well, we have an astronomically higher amount of quality players than they do in their events," he said with a laugh. "I think all of us have not been shy to say it that, you know, this is stuff that we've been trying to do and have worked on.

"Obviously got sped up a crazy amount due to what was going on in the outside. I don't know, I mean if you're just going to single out those [no-cut] events and have them only be the events we have, then, yeah, it's extremely similar [to LIV].

"But there's a lot more going on over the course of an entire year on the PGA Tour than just the elevated events, I would say."

Thomas' comments come after LIV chief Greg Norman revealed in December last year that the pair had held detailed talks about the American joining LIV. "Our door is open for everybody," Norman told Bunkered.

"We're not the PGA Tour. We're not like that. We exist for the players, so we will always have an open door, whether that's for Rory or Jordan Spieth or Justin Thomas or whoever.

"We talked to JT. Me and another member of my team, we sat down with him and gave him the full presentation and, if you notice, he's not said much negative about what we're doing, presumably because he knows it and understands it."
