Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler want to be part of Leeds United takeover

Golf star Rickie Fowler has revealed he wants to be a part of the Leeds United takeover alongside Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

It was confirmed just last week that 49ers enterprises, the owners of NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers, were to become the new owners of Leeds United after previous owner Andrea Radrizzani sold his share of the club.

The American group already had a 44% share in the club prior to this new deal. The club had been valued at around £400 million but that figure has dropped dramatically in the aftermath of Leeds' relegation from the top-flight.

The group are now looking for new investors to help raise funds for an assault on the Championship with an immediate return to the Premier League the top priority.

Golf trio Fowler, Spieth and Thomas have remarkably been linked with the takeover, and in an interview with Sky Sports, Fowler made it clear that he wants the deal to happen.

"Not yet, technically," said Fowler when asked whether he was a part of the takeover.

He added: "There is the group that's moving forward with being involved with Leeds. Myself, JT (Justin Thomas) and Jordan (Spieth) potentially will be a part of it."

"It's cool to have those opportunities. I know we are looking into it. It will be fun if we get to be a part of it. If not, we will continue to root for Leeds to see if we can help out Billy.

"Obviously they got relegated, but to be able to go to a Premier League game, Champions League. I feel like, obviously you call it football over there, we call it soccer here, it's a massive sport.

"I feel like it's continuing to get bigger in the States, but still since I haven't been to a game I don't have the true appreciation until I've actually been able to go and be there and feel that energy."
