Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase made quite the statement about his contract situation on Friday before Week 1.
There, Chase spoke with the media for the first time in a long time and revealed when his deadline is and how the impasse with the team about an extension might impact his ability to play in the season opener.
In the process, Chase’s former LSU teammate and current Minnesota Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson was a topic of discussion, as expected.
Funnily enough, Jefferson was also recently asked about Chase’s situation and had some sage advice during an appearance on the “Up & Adams” show: “I hope he gets the contract he’s looking for…but I also hope that he plays it smart and let it get in the way of his greatness and being on that field.”
We can’t know just yet if Chase will align with this advice and prevent the contract situation from getting on the field. But recent progress on the talks is what got him back on the practice field at all.

Little teaser here… we asked Jefferson about his guy Ja'Marr Chase and the thought of him getting paid ONE penny more than he did 🔊@JJettas2 @Real10jayy__ @Vikings pic.twitter.com/IslYoNYX9E
