Justin Herbert injury update: X-rays negative, will be monitored throughout the week

Justin Herbert reaggravated the high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2, which caused him to leave the Chargers’ loss to the Steelers on Sunday.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Herbert underwent X-rays that came up negative. He will be monitored throughout the week as the team prepares for its Week 4 matchup with the Chiefs.

After the game, Herbert was in a walking boot. He said he’s hoping to play against Kansas City this weekend.

Jim Harbaugh told reporters that he had planned to take Herbert out at the first sign he had a limp, and that’s what he did.

Despite throwing for 125 yards and a touchdown, Herbert looked unstable during warmups and wasn’t moving well during the game, an indicator that it may not have been the best idea to play him from the beginning.

After taking a few big hits in the third quarter and then the sack by Elandon Roberts that forced Herbert out of the game, it becomes a question of why they elected to start him.
