Justin Fields explains what he’s shown the Bears this season

The Chicago Bears have an important decision looming this offseason at quarterback.

While Justin Fields is still under contract for one more year — and they could pick up his fifth-year option — the Bears are trending toward having the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft (courtesy of the Carolina Panthers).

And with some top prospects like Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, general manager Ryan Poles will need to determine the best direction for this team moving forward — whether that’s drafting a rookie and trading Fields or sticking with Fields.

Fields has certainly made his case this season to remain the team’s starting quarterback in 2024, and he explained what he’s shown the Bears this season.

Improvement,” Fields told reporters Wednesday. “They know. They know. Everybody in the building knows who I am. Like I said, I can control what I can control, and that’s it.”

There’s no denying Fields has made strides as a passer this season, coupled with his elite athleticism that’s kept defenses on their toes. But is it enough to warrant a commitment from the Bears?

For what it’s worth, Fields’ teammates, including wide receiver DJ Moore, have made it clear they believe Fields should be the franchise quarterback moving forward. And that’s something that hasn’t been lost on Fields.

“It means a lot,” Fields said. “[The guys] know the work I put in for this every day. I try to lead the team the best way possible. I’m just glad I’m making a positive impact and that my teammates feel that way about me.”

We’ll soon see if the front office feels the same.
