Justin Bieber drops defamation lawsuit over sexual assault

Justin Bieber has dropped his defamation lawsuit against two women who accused him of sexual assault on Twitter.

One woman, known only as Danielle, claimed the 28-year-old assaulted her on March 9, 2014 after inviting her to his hotel room at the Four Seasons in Texas.

While Khadidja Djibrine said she was assaulted by the Don’t Go singer in a New York hotel room on May 5, 2015.

Justin has always denied the allegations saying it was “factually impossible”, as he could prove he was elsewhere at the time of both alleged assaults.

Despite filing a $20 million lawsuit against the women in 2020, he asked a judge to dismiss the case in court papers filed in Los Angeles last week.

His lawyer Evan Spiegel released a statement on Tuesday which said: “Justin has decided to move on and dismiss the case for defamation filed in 2020.”

TMZ reports Justin chose to dismiss the case because he “felt his point had been made”.

The defamation case had been scheduled to go to trial in May after mediation with Khadidja Djibrine was unsuccessful. While the second woman ‘Danielle’ was never located.

Court papers filed by the pop star’s legal team accused both women of “fraudulently scheming to seek attention and fame by maliciously posting despicable, blatantly false, fabricated, defamatory accusations that Justin Bieber engaged in sexual assault”.

Releasing a statement on Twitter at the time he filed the complaint, Justin said: “I don’t normally address things, as I have dealt with random accusations my entire career.

“But after talking with my wife [ Hailey Baldwin ] and team, I have decided to speak up on an issue tonight. Rumors are rumors but sexual abuse is something I don’t take lightly."

He added: “I wanted to speak out right away, but out of respect to so many victims who deal with these issues daily I wanted to make sure I gathered the facts before I made any statement.

“Every claim of sexual abuse should be taken very seriously and this is why my response was needed.

“However, this story is factually impossible and that is why I will be working with Twitter and the authorities to take legal action.”

Justin went on to post receipts, screenshots of emails and news articles to his social media accounts proving he was with his then girlfriend, Selena Gomez, on the night of the alleged 2014 assault.

The night the second alleged assault is said to have taken place, Justin was at the Met Gala and a celebrity afterparty, where he remained until 4am.

His team submitted a photo of him next to a hot dog stand after he left the party. The woman claimed the assault occurred around 2.30am in a hotel.
