Victoria's workplace safety regulator has laid charges over a youth justice worker's alleged assault.
WorkSafe on Wednesday charged the Department of Justice and Community Safety after the worker was allegedly assaulted at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct in March 2023.
The regulator has not released details about the severity of the alleged attack.
The watchdog charged the department with failing to provide and maintain a safe working environment, claiming it did not reduce the risk of occupational violence and aggression during evening lockdown.
The case is due before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on April 8.
The youth justice precinct accommodates people aged between 10 and 22.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety reports all assaults to Victoria Police for investigation.
"Youth Justice has a zero tolerance approach to violence and the safety of staff is of the utmost importance," a departmental spokeswoman said.
It would be inappropriate for the department to comment on an individual matter before the courts, the spokeswoman said.
