Following this, Thomas proceeded to the White House where he swore in Pam Bondi as the new attorney general, with President Trump praising Ginni Thomas, a prominent conservative activist, during the event.
Later in the day, Justice Thomas swore in Scott Turner as the secretary of Housing and Urban Development at the White House's Roosevelt Room, with President Trump in attendance. Prior to these ceremonies, Thomas had also sworn in Sean Duffy as the new secretary of the Department of Transportation in a closed ceremony at the Supreme Court.
Additionally, on January 25, Thomas administered the oath to Kristi Noem, who is overseeing the Department of Homeland Security, at his suburban Virginia home. These events have highlighted Justice Thomas' increased visibility in the second Trump administration, coinciding with a surge in litigation stemming from the president's executive orders.
President Trump's focus on potential vacancies in the high court during his new term is evident, having already appointed three new justices in his first four-year term, thereby solidifying a right-wing supermajority among the nine justices.
