The news has sparked great excitement among Geordie shoppers and now the brand has confirmed when customers will be able to visit the store this year.
A Mango spokesman has said that the store will open in October, with an exact date to be confirmed during the final stages of the construction work. The store will offer customers "450 square metres of womenswear" and will create around 13 jobs when it opens.
Mango, which was founded in Barcelona, is currently only available in Newcastle as a department store concession inside Fenwicks.
The announcement of the new store comes as welcome news to shoppers who shared their excitement on Chronicle Live's Facebook page over the weekend. Hundreds of people reacted to the news and tagged their friends in the post.
Shopper Jade Quinn said: "OMG I love this shop!" While Vicki Anne added: "This is excellent news!"
Millie Ellcock commented: "Just what I said Newcastle needed!"
The new store will also be celebrated by city bosses following the closure of Monsoon earlier year. The unit has stood empty since then, with a number of other major stores including Debenhams and Topshop also closing due to tough trading conditions on the high street.
An Eldon Square spokeswoman said: "We are delighted to confirm that one of Europe’s major fashion brands, Mango, will be joining our retail line up later this year. Mango is yet another global brand making the decision to open their store in our centre following the likes of H&M late last year.
"The fashion clothing brand, founded in the Spanish city of Barcelona, will be the perfect addition to our growing selection of fashion retailers and we are excited to continue enhancing the overall experience for our visitors.
Eldon Square’s visitors will be welcome in Mango’s new store located on St. Andrew’s way opposite Apple and H&M later this year."
