'Just look at them' - Everton fans react to Duncan Ferguson appointment

Everton fans have reacted to the appointment of Duncan Ferguson as caretaker manager on social media.

The Blues parted company with Rafa Benitez on Sunday, with a defeat to Norwich a day earlier leaving the club 16th in the table.

It is the second time that former Everton striker Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the club, having had a brief spell in the dugout in 2019.

And it was a picture of Ferguson taking first team training, alongside fellow Everton legend Leighton Baines, that sparked a joyous response from the fanbase.

Ferguson took training on Tuesday as Everton prepared for Saturday’s game against Aston Villa at Goodison, where he will share the touchline with ex-Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.

During his earlier spell in charge, the Scottish coach oversaw a 3-1 win over Chelsea and draws against Manchester United and Arsenal in three league games.

The former number nine first took a coaching role at Goodison in 2011, before being promoted to first team duties in 2014.

Ferguson will be joined in the Blues dugout by John Ebbrell and goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly as well as Baines.

Baines took up a role within Everton’s academy in September 2020 and was named as U23’s coach Paul Tait’s assistant on a short-term basis, a year later.

Two heroes of the club, Ferguson and Baines made a combined 693 appearances for the Toffees during their playing careers.

In a club statement, Everton confirmed that an announcement regarding a permanent managerial appointment would be made in due course.
