'Just for the fume' - Liverpool fans troll Manchester United after Cristiano Ronaldo exit

Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news that Cristiano Ronaldo has left Manchester United by mutual consent.

The 37-year-old made the headlines last week when he gave an interview with Piers Morgan for TalkTV. In the interview, Ronaldo heavily criticised Man United and manager Erik ten Hag.

Now a little over a week since news of the interview first surfaced, Man United and Ronaldo have both confirmed they have mutually agreed to part ways. United issued a statement on Tuesday evening announcing they had reached a mutual agreement with the player to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect," a club statement read.

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

"Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch."

Ronaldo released his own statement following the news, writing: “Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
