Just Eat rider gives chase after men steal electric bike

A delivery rider was pushed when he tried to recover his electric bike after a street robbery.

The incident happened at around 7pm on Tuesday (March 22) when a Just Eat rider's bike was stolen by two men on Hillside Avenue in Huyton. The men pushed away the rider when he tried to recover his electric bike, which was later recovered by officers on patrol in the Knowsley Heights area. The rider was not hurt, police confirmed.

Officers have stepped up efforts to protect delivery riders across the city after a spate of incidents. Police are set to attend the Just Eat hub in Vauxhall to discuss “road safety concerns and crime prevention" following a number of assaults and robberies in north Liverpool.

Community Policing Inspector Simon Peers said: “We simply will not tolerate any robbery, including on people who are simply carrying out their business and trying to make a living in our communities. I want to reassure delivery riders that we take each report very seriously we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice. I would encourage riders to report any suspicious activity.

"If you see an officer on patrol and have any concerns, have witnessed or been victim of an incident, please do not hesitate to approach them and share any information or concerns. Similarly, if you were in the Huyton area on Tuesday and witnessed the incident, or anything suspicious, then please let us know. Information you provide could be vital to our enquiries and help to keep our communities safe.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101 with reference 22000199856.
