Just Eat has teamed up with former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg to save gamers wronged by glitches. With the new editions of popular football games such as FIFA just around the corner, gamers will be preparing for their favourite time of the season.
But there's nothing worse than a glitch in gameplay or a laggy Internet connection meaning you're denied a clear cut penalty or your keeper fumbles a shot. Well, to ease the pain, Just Eat has launched the Deli-VAR-y panel to review and compensate gamers fouled by glitches.
Clips sent to the company will be reviewed by the panel. If they feel gamers have been wronged, they will be rewarded with a free meal.
It comes as new research by Just Eat says 92% of gamers have been the victim of glitches. And 36% say a glitch has meant they have gone on to lose a game.
Around 47% of gamers say they have suffered freezing, with 33% saying they have had players stuck in something like the goal net. While 27% say they have had players suddenly unable to jump, run, or shoot.
And, malfunctioning gameplay has even caused real life issues. Around 19% of irritated gamers say they have damaged a controller, while 26% say they have argued with a loved one and 15% kicked something in rage.
What’s more, malfunctioning gameplay has even caused real life collateral damage, with irritated gamers admitting to damaging a controller (19 per cent), arguing with a loved one (26 per cent) and kicking something in a rage (15 per cent).
While there is a love-hate relationship of VAR in the real game of football, many gamers want to see it introduced to their gameplay. A massive 76% stating that they would use a VAR panel in-game if it was available.
Mark Clattenburg said: “I’m really looking forward to being back in the VAR hot seat and analysing the gaming clips as part of Just Eat's new panel. Football and gaming can both be very tense affairs, and losing because of a glitch just isn’t fair game. I’ll bring all my refereeing experience to the table, and hopefully getting some free food on Just Eat will take the sting out of it.”
The Just Eat Deli-VAR-y panel was put to the ultimate test by gaming and football fanatics, Chunkz and Darkest Man. The two content creators, who shot to fame as members of the YouTube group Beta Squad, know all too well the anguish of glitches and unlucky play.
YouTuber and TV Personality Chunkz said: “Every gamer, including myself, has lost it because of a glitch. I hate a jammy goal, they drive you mad - trust! Nothing worse than seeing your best mate celebrating ‘cause he got lucky. If you’ve been on the wrong end of a horrible glitch or a ridiculous keeper howler, Just Eat is here to ease the pain.”
Just Eat is kicking off the new VAR Panel on September 28 for ten days only. If you feel like you’ve been nutmegged by your favourite football game, or fleeced by a flukey friend, send your gameplay clips to Markclattenburg@justeattakeaway.com and if the VAR Panel agrees, you will be compensated with free food on Just Eat.
