'Just Cause 4' Release Date: 10 Things You Should Know Before You Buy The Game

I’m not ashamed to say I thoroughly enjoyed Just Cause 3. I accepted the game for what it was, which was partially flawed, but tons of fun in an open world with tons of possibilities.

Just Cause 4

Based on the early impressions and of course the trailers, it seems Just Cause 4 ups the ante when it comes to action and more. We’re just hours away from the official release on December 4 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, so if you’re still undecided or just thirsty to read as much as you can, I have the 10 things you should know about Just Cause 4 before you buy it.

Special Edition Info And Pre-Order Bonuses

You can choose from three different versions. The most basic is the Day One Edition. It’s the standard $59.99. You can get this one almost anywhere, but If you pre-order it at Gamestop you’ll receive the Steelbox Day One Edition.

That version includes the Neon Racer DLC Pack. If you can do it in time, placing a pre-order at Best Buy or Amazon entitles you to a $10 reward certificate. If you pre-order the Standard Edition from Xbox or PlayStation online you get the Deathstalker Scorpion Pack that includes:

Deathstalker Scorpion Muscle Car
Deathstalker Scorpion Assault Buggy
Deathstalker Scorpion Explosive Rifle
Deathstalker Scorpion Wingsuit
Deathstalker Scorpion Parachute

One of the best pre-order bonuses is the 24-hour early access that comes with the Digital Deluxe Edition for $69.99. However, at this point, you will have lost out on that benefit because those customers have already gained access. You would still get the Deathstalker Scorpion Pack and more Digital Deluxe content.

The most expensive edition is the Gold, and it’s $89.99. It has everything the Digital Deluxe Edition has, but it also has the Expansion Pass and Golden Gear Pack.

That pack delivers the following in-game items:
Golden Gear Shotgun
Golden Gear Wingsuit
Golden Gear Parachute

Game Genre and Plot

Just Cause 4 is still all about the protagonist Rico Rodriguez taking on organized crime factions in an open-world environment. The series has long been known for its wild, fun, but implausible action. Expect more of the same as Rico heads to Solis in this version.

What Did Critics Think of Just Cause 3?

Critics were a little lukewarm on Just Cause 3. It has a Metacritic score of 73 on PS4. It was a little glitchy at first and you could poke some fun at the game’s lack of focus, but the action was almost undeniable.

Avalanche Studios New Engine

Just Cause 4 is developed by Avalanche Studios and the team is using the new Apex engine to power the game. The new technology should enhance the game’s depiction of environments, vehicles, lighting and the overall look and feel of the experience.

Amazing Weather Effects

One area of the game that has received a good amount of attention is the weather effects. This is a direct result of the use of the Apex engine. From everything I’ve seen, it looks fantastic in a Just Causey kind of way.

There Is No Multiplayer Mode

Multiplayer is all the rage with most franchises, but the game’s publisher Square Enix and Avalanche Studios didn’t go that route in Just Cause 4. It is strictly a single-player experience.

It’s Meant To Be Over the Top

You have to remember while you’re playing Just Cause 4, this game is designed to be preposterous. In the last one, I’d escape some situations after suffering all kinds of damage and falling from unbelievable heights in the sky. Good old Rico barely has a scratch one him.

What Are Frontlines?

There is a new feature called “Frontline.” It refers to areas in the game where the battle between Solis rebels and the Black Hand is already raging upon Rico’s arrival. This is designed to offer a challenge as the chaos doesn’t ramp up, it starts at 100 which means there are more ways to die…quickly.

There Are Customizable Weapons and Items

This is new to the series. In Just Cause 4 Rico’s grappling hook, which is his signature weapon, can be upgraded. You can deploy balloons that carry items from one place to the next, and then there are the guns that can also be modded too.
