Former Manchester United target Jurrien Timber says Ajax teammate Antony “deserves” his move to Old Trafford. He called the transfer “a very nice step” for the Brazilian, admitting it would be a “dream” to go for such a high fee, which is believed to be around £85m. Timber was on Ten Hag’s shortlist this summer before the player signed a new deal in Amsterdam.
The centre-half was warned by Netherlands head coach and ex-Reds boss Louis van Gaal that his place in the World Cup squad could be at risk if he failed to register enough game time at Old Trafford. From then on, Timber seemed distant to a move to Manchester.
He has since seen Lisandro Martinez and Antony depart to reunite with Ten Hag, the latter forcing an exit by not training with the first team and publicly slamming the club. However, that hasn’t stopped Timber congratulating him on his move to United.

The 21-year-old told NOS : “I think it’s (the transfer) nice for him. It is a very nice step for a nice amount. He’s done well and that’s why he deserves it.”
When asked whether he would be sold for such a high amount, he added: “It would be nice. That would be a dream come true.”
“I think we have a lot of good players within the group,” Timber said regarding Ajax finding a replacement. “But it is up to Ajax itself to say whether he should be replaced.
“Of course we have a feeling for it, but in the end we just have to do it – with or without a replacement.” Former winger Hakim Ziyech, who was previously linked with a move to United, looks set to take Antony’s place at Ajax.
