Jurrien Timber agent reveals he's in Manchester 'for work' in new Man United transfer twist

Jurrien Timber's agent has teased Manchester United supporters by revealing he is in the city to 'work' this week.

Erik ten Hag made the Ajax defender his preferred centre-back recruit this summer, while United prioritised Timber as their top defensive target. The 21-year-old is capable of playing at right-back as well as centre-back and United intend to strengthen both positions with Aaron Wan-Bissaka available for transfer.

However, it is understood Dutch international Timber has reservations about a move to Old Trafford because he doesn't want to jeopardise his place at international level ahead of the World Cup.

United could get a firm answer on the Ajax centre-back this week after his representative Revien Kanhai uploaded a picture of the city to his Instagram story along with the caption: “Love to travel for work”.

The Manchester Evening News revealed at the start of this month that United held talks with Portuguese defender David Carmo about a possible summer move.

Braga defender Carmo is a back-up option being considered by the club, along with Villarreal defender Pau Torres, who was also considered a year ago. United held exploratory talks with Antonio Rudiger's representatives before he opted to join Real Madrid and Ten Hag has publicly championed Timber.

Central defenders Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe could all leave United in the summer. United explored a possible swap deal involving Bailly and Torres last year.
