Jurgen Klopp warned "all is not well" at Liverpool after tricky Champions League draw

Jurgen Klopp has been warned by former Tottenham and Chelsea star-turned-pundit Glenn Hoddle that "all is not well" at Liverpool.

The Reds have suffered their worst start to a season in Premier League history, with no win inside their opening three fixtures. Instead, Klopp's side sit on two points after drawing their first two games against Fulham and Crystal Palace before a damaging defeat away at long-term rivals Manchester United.

The Red Devils ran-out 2-1 victors at Old Trafford while Liverpool looked a shadow of their former selves, spending much of the game losing the battle in the centre of the park, which explains Klopp's confession that another midfielder would be "cool".

As relayed by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds boss explained: "This situation did not change. Now we have more injuries than we would have imagined and it would be cool to have another midfielder in, of course. He added that he is "not in charge" of what Liverpool can spend.

Like Klopp, Hoddle mentioned the injuries currently plaguing this Liverpool side. "It is not as good as they'd like it to be - they have got a lot of injuries at the moment with key players out," the ex-Monaco man told BT Sport. "It is very difficult to set a standard and keep it, but they've had to do it in back-to-back seasons. They had the two domestic cups they won, but all is not well there.

"I think they've got enough quality, on and off the pitch, with Klopp and his experience, to turn it back around. But they cannot let City get five, six points away from them so early in the season."

Liverpool have certainly overcome bigger points deficits, but this slow start is certainly a worthy cause for concern. Players who are usually so reliable for the Reds are performing well below their expected standards.

Virgil van Dijk came in for some stern on-pitch criticism from teammate James Milner following United's first goal on Monday night, while club captain Jordan Henderson had a night to forget and was hooked long before the full-time whistle.

Things aren't expected to get easier anytime soon, particularly in Europe, where the Reds were drawn in a Champions League group that contains the Dutch giants Ajax and Scottish titans Rangers as well as Serie A side Napoli.

Up next in the league is the visit of newly-promoted Bournemouth to Anfield on Saturday, where a win is absolutely essential to kickstart Liverpool's campaign.
