Jurgen Klopp famously warned Philippe Coutinho he was in danger of becoming "just be another player" when he left Liverpool - and it seems the same advice now applies to Sadio Mane.
Senegal winger Mane looks set to depart Anfield either this summer or next as he enters the final 12 months of his contract. Talks with the Reds have stalled over a new deal, opening the door for Bayern Munich, who are ready to lodge a £25million bid to test Liverpool's resolve.
Mane is indicating that he wants a new challenge but the Anfield club will only let him go at the right price and want nearer to £45m for their prized asset. Liverpool are in a similar situation with Mohamed Salah, who also has a year left on his current deal.
Salah would ideally like to stay at Anfield if his demands are met, but if that's not the case, he will leave as a free next summer, preferably to a Premier League rival.
The Reds also experienced this with Georgino Wijnaldum who joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer as Liverpool wouldn't give in to his wage demands. It's a move that hasn't worked out for the Dutch international and he has even admitted regret at leaving the Merseyside club.
Philippe Coutinho is another example of a player who thought the grass was greener on the other side, but quickly found out that it wasn't to be. Liverpool might have raked in around £140m for the midfielder, which helped facilitate deals for Alisson and Virgil van Dijk, but they weren't pushing the Brazilian out the door, as he was operating at an extremely high level.
Klopp warned the Brazilian that playing for a club like Barcelona is no match for Liverpool and he could have cemented his legacy as a club great if he had stayed put.
In May 2017, Klopp said about Coutinho: "Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour.
"Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more."

Klopp coincidentally mentioned Bayern Munich, who Mane is now linked with, but his piece of advice still rings true for several players who have jumped ship from Liverpool as it's not always what they envision.
Klopp provided an ambiguous response when asked about Mane's future ahead of the Champions League final that Liverpool lost 1-0 against Real Madrid.
The German said: "Wherever Sadio will play next year, he will be a big player."
