Jurgen Klopp told to 'shut up' about Liverpool complaints ahead of Nottingham Forest test

Nottingham Forest legend Colin Barrett has told Jurgen Klopp to "shut up" after the Liverpool manager complained about fixture congestion.

Liverpool will face Forest in the FA Cup quarter-finals next Sunday, but before that they have games against Inter Milan, Brighton and Arsenal.

With that in mind, Klopp is calling for the re-introduction of five substitutes as they rival Manchester City for the Premier League title in their pursuit of a quadruple.

"If you can't make changes - we played final Sunday, then Wednesday, then Saturday and now Tuesday - that's actually a horrible schedule," the Liverpool boss said.

"We have pushed each other to insane levels the last few years. It's great for everyone in football you can have competition like this, I think that's really good for football.

"That's why we need five subs. I don't know why you are laughing, it's not funny. We need five subs."

Former Reds defender Barrett is far from sympathetic to Klopp's views.

"If you don't want fixtures don't be successful! There's plenty of time to play all the games. I get fed up of managers saying there's too many games," he said on this week's Garibaldi Red podcast.

"We played 80 games a season when we won the league and cups. The other side of the coin is, if you don't want to be successful, lose games of football and then you'll get the sack.

"Bottom line is Klopp, shut up and play the games. You're a successful manager and Liverpool Football Club are delighted you're winning games for them.

"If someone else came in and said we're not bothered about the League Cup and FA Cup - they're fortunate they can compete for the title and in Europe, but I've never heard a manager get to a cup final and say they don't want to win.

"Everyone wants to win cups. All this thing about too many games, it's mind games. He's playing stupid games. Forest will play eight more league games than them so stop moaning and get on with the games."

Barrett knows what it takes to beat Liverpool having scored against them in the European Cup first round in 1978 as Forest went on to win the trophy before retaining it a year later.

The circumstances are different now with Forest a Championship side, but Barrett says Forest have a chance if they focus on their own team and not the galaxy of stars the could face.

"Forest have got to sort their own game out. If they worry more about Liverpool more than their own game they're on the back foot right away," he said.

"They've got to do what they do best and then go from there. If it doesn't work that's all well and good, but at least they did it their way.

"When we played, Liverpool couldn't cope with us for three or four seasons. We did that because we were more interested in our dressing room than theirs.

"If you look at the team sheet and then think 'we're in for it today' then you're on the back foot. I want my dressing room to be right and have a good go.

"So long as everyone puts their lot in fans and ex-players won't complain. It's a chance for players to make their name and I hope they go and do it.

"I hope Liverpool don't come here and disrespect Forest. I don't think they will with this manager. Other teams have in the past."
