Jurgen Klopp thanks former club of Liverpool star with handwritten letter

Jurgen Klopp has sent a handwritten letter to the club Caoimhin Kelleher began his career at, thanking them for their role in developing the Irish goalkeeper.

Kelleher has made rapid progress at Liverpool since making his competitive debut for the club in an EFL Cup victory over MK Dons in September 2019, having recently been trusted to feature in the final of the same competition during February's showpiece final involving Chelsea.

The 23-year-old featured in all the previous rounds on the Reds' way to glory, with the exception of the semi-final first leg against Arsenal, and was the hero in the penalty shootout at Wembley involving the Londoners.

Another big moment for the young shot-stopper arrived in January when selected to start away to Chelsea after Allison was ruled out due to Covid, and he is now very much Klopp's go-to back-up option between the sticks.

His footballing journey began in his home country at Ringmahon Rangers, who he left in 2015 to join the Reds' Academy, who maintain a sense a pride that one of their former players has gone on to establish themselves at a giant of the game.

As a mark of respect for the efforts of the Irish club in Kelleher's early career, Klopp arranged for the goalkeeper's match-worn shirt from this year's EFL Cup final to be sent. Accompanying this piece of memorabilia was the following message from the German: "To everyone at Ringmahon Rangers. Thank you for sending us Caoimhin. He’s done you proud! Cheers, Jurgen Klopp."

Responding to this tribute, Ringmahon Rovers tweeted: "What a lovely gift to get for the Clubhouse. Caoimhin Kelleher's cup final winning jersey. And to top it off a handwritten letter from manager Jurgen Klopp. Thanks so much to the @johngibbonsblog from @TheAnfieldWrap for sorting us out."
