Jurgen Klopp tells Liverpool fans what he needs and sends Barcelona warning before Villarreal

Jurgen Klopp called on Liverpool supporters to create the atmosphere that helps propel them to the Champions League final against Villarreal on Wednesday.

It's three years since the Reds took part in a last-four tie of the European Cup and will host Unai Emery's surprise package at Anfield ahead of the second leg in Spain next week.

Klopp was asked if there were any similarities between the 2019 semi-final against Barcelona and Wednesday's fixture and said he needs to hear a similar atmosphere to the one that inspired that famous 4-0 turnaround.

"We need the atmosphere, we need the performance, but it's a completely different game," Klopp said. "Barcelona's setup is completely different to what Villarreal is doing. We need to be on top of our game, I need to be on top of my game before and after the game as well.

"That is completely fine, it is the semi-final of the Champions League. If it is easy then something would be completely wrong. I can’t wait, even in the tactics schedule, Man City, Man United, Everton, if you need a next game to be 1000 percent in, then it is Villarreal in the Champions League."

Klopp's Liverpool head into the tie as favourites against Emery's Yellow Submarine. The Reds are able to boast as many as 20 different goalscorers this season and while Roberto Firmino is likely to be absent, Klopp is still able to pick from Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane, who have registered 74 goals between them.

Klopp added: "It is a wonderful statistic, I never had that before that 20 players of my squad scored a goal in a season. For me, a block on the line is like scoring a goal to be honest, but we don’t count them.

"There is no list for that and so otherwise, did Alisson score this season already? No, but he has already made a few saves which are like scoring a goal.

"There are different ways of winning a game and you have to find one. That is how it is. We did that at the weekend (against Everton), obviously the first half was not very good but obviously we didn't stop there. We learned from the first half and tried to improve by causing problems. We scored goals. Robbo (Andy Robertson) celebrated like it was his first goal. It was his first in front of the Kop!

"We have to find a way tomorrow as well and the next leg. We have two games to play, one here and one there. We know whatever result we get tomorrow night it will be an incredibly emotional atmosphere there and that is what we have to create tomorrow night as well.

"It's nicer if you play away first and then can fight for it in the second game with your crowd, but who cares? That is how it is.

"We have to make sure we are really on top of our game, everybody in the stadium, our supporters are smart and they know, they watch football and they know Villarreal are strong, we are strong but there will be moments where we suffer tomorrow night, I known that already but we can make them suffer tomorrow.

"I don’t know which result we will get but whatever we will work with it because it means everything to reach the Champions League final."
