Jurgen Klopp set identical Liverpool challenge by Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher

Former Liverpool stars Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher both believe the current team need to win more trophies under Jurgen Klopp.

The German's fabulous side have won the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup, but they are yet to win a domestic cup competition.

They've also lost four previous finals - the League Cup and Europa League in 2016, Champions League in 2018 and Community Shield in 2020.

Liverpool can add another trophy to their collection later this month when they face Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea in the League Cup final at Wembley.

The Reds also have an outside chance of winning all four major trophies this season and former striker Owen has tasked Klopp to "make the most" of his squad.

Is Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side one of the greatest in Premier League history? Let us know in the comments below!

"You can’t really argue with that though I think because a lot of his best players, you look at the best players in his team they’re all at the absolute ripe age to be the best," said Owen.

"[Virgil] van Dijk, [Mohamed] Salah, [Sadio] Mane, Fabinho, [Roberto] Firmino - there are so many great players but they’re all of that age whereby you’d be disappointed if they weren’t playing at their peak."

Owen went on to say: "So, this is a time for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp to collect trophies - as many as they can.

"In a few years it’ll be a different look side and you can’t guarantee that you’re going to have as good players as you’ve got now, so it’s time to collect trophies and they’re doing alright."

Heading into Thursday's Premier League fixture against Leicester at Anfield, Liverpool were 12 points behind leaders Manchester City with two games in hand.

The Reds face Norwich in the fifth round of the FA Cup and Inter Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place in Italy on Wednesday.

Speaking last month, Carragher urged Liverpool to add some more trophies to their packed cabinet this season.

The ex-defender and Owen famously won five trophies in a calendar year during their time at Anfield, lifting the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup and Community Shield in 2001.

Liverpool haven't won the League Cup since 2012, while they haven't tasted FA Cup or Community Shield success in nearly 16 years.

"When I look at Jurgen Klopp’s team now and how good they’ve been, how much we’ve loved them, the football they’ve played I don’t actually think they’ve won enough," said Carragher.

"One league and a European cup is fantastic, of course it is, but you think of what Man City have done and certainly Chelsea in terms of picking up cups - you can’t win the league or the European cup every year.

"It’s very difficult so to pick up an FA Cup or Carabao [League] Cup I think does make a big difference."
