Jurgen Klopp sent FSG a clear message with Luis Diaz Liverpool transfer comments

Luis Diaz 's transfer to Liverpool is now complete and the Colombian's arrival at Anfield is undoubtedly a statement signing.

But not only is the £50million deal to bring Diaz from Porto to Merseyside one which should strike fear into the Reds' rivals, Jurgen Klopp has used the 25-year-old's capture to send a clear message to his bosses.

The club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, have been routinely criticised in recent seasons for their lack of investment, despite Liverpool being crowned Premier League and European champions since 2019.

Fans have grown frustrated with their team's lack of transfer activity whether it be in summer or winter windows, but John Henry and co decided to get their wallets out this January to back Klopp, something he feels should be a given.

Speaking his club's website after Diaz was announced on Sunday afternoon, the Reds boss stated: "This team deserved to add quality."

While his words simply be viewed as a compliment to his title-chasing side, Klopp made sure to hammer home that if Liverpool are to continue competing on all fronts, Henry's investment will be vital.

Last summer's transfer window was when supporters truly began to fear they would be left behind after spending just £36million on one player, third-choice centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

That was while title holders Manchester City paid £100million to sign Jack Grealish and Champions League winners Chelsea splashed out £97.5million on Romelu Lukaku.

And when Arsenal and Manchester United 's business took them well over the £100m mark, critics claimed Liverpool were being sold short by FSG, potentially unable to compete with their rivals on the financial front.

Klopp made headlines in August for his comments on his club's financial predicament, saying: "We cannot spend money we don't have. We cannot, the others can but we can't. That's my information.

"Chelsea are not hiding their ambitions, Man United isn't, City isn't. We don't want to hide our ambitions because we want to fight for everything and in this moment it will be a massive fight"

But with Diaz now through the door and £50m heading to the Estadio do Dragao, Henry and his fellow board members look to have listened to the German and are up for that fight.

"I also must make clear my appreciation to our ownership and football operations team for how they have managed to act so decisively to get this done," the Reds manager added.

"Luis is a player we believe will make us better now and in the future. He is the player we really wanted and they’ve made it happen, so I am very happy."
