Jurgen Klopp says it "doesn't look good" for injured Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold was substituted at half-time because he suffered an ankle injury in Liverpool's 3-2 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Alexander-Arnold was brought off at half-time and replaced by Joe Gomez after a pulsating 45 minutes up against Gabriel Martinelli. The England international went down midway through the half after appearing to roll his ankle following a challenge from the Brazilian.

After carrying on for the remainder of the half, Klopp made the decision to take off Alexander-Arnold. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz was also brought off after he picked up a knee injury and Sky Sports revealed that the Colombian left the stadium on crutches.

Speaking to BBC, Klopp said: "He is injured unfortunately. Like Luis Diaz as well, it doesn't look good for both. That is the icing on the cake..."

The Gunners started the game brightly and took the lead within the opening 60 seconds as Martinelli coolly slotted home the opener to give them the perfect start. Liverpool responded well to going behind and levelled on the half hour mark as Darwin Nunez tucked home from close-range following an excellent delivery from Luis Diaz.

However, Mikel Arteta's side regained the lead on the stroke of half-time when Martinelli's cross found Saka at the back post and he did the rest, stroking into an empty net. The Reds levelled for a second time in the 53rd minute as Roberto Firmino finished off a fine move to spark delirium in the away end.

A topsy-turvy evening at the Emirates wasn't finished there as Arsenal nicked it through Bukayo Saka's penalty to leave the Reds in 10th, with just two wins from their first eight Premier League matches. Despite falling to defeat, Klopp could take some positives from the performance.

Klopp added: "We created, we were really dangerous, we scored our goal, wonderful goal. Then concede last second of the first half. Obviously we made a mistake, counter attack is the goal. That is our situation, getting to half time knowing we were good in the game but ignoring the result.

"We wanted to carry on the good stuff but unfortunately we didn't do that. We equalised, it was a really open game then. The situation around the penalty of course we should have cleared it. Now I saw it and I think you can imagine I don't think it is a clear penalty, it is a very soft one. I think it is a situation where the referee have another look at it in real time.

"Couple of things went against us but we are not blind, we see we could have done better in moments. In general it was a good away game against a good side. We caused them a lot of problems but stand here with no points."
