Jurgen Klopp's spiky response likened to Sir Alex Ferguson Manchester United tactic

Jurgen Klopp has been likened to Sir Alex Ferguson after the Liverpool manger refused to answer a reporter's question on their 3-0 defeat at Wolves.

The Merseyside club suffered their third Premier League defeat in four games at Molineux as a dismal campaign shows no signs of improvement. Seven defeats for the season sees them languishing in 10th, 11 points off the top-four and almost certainly out of the Champions League race.

After the defeat, one reporter asked whether the regular concession of early goals is linked to a problem with the mentality at the club - a point Klopp outright refused to answer from him, before asking another journalist to repeat it.

A disgruntled Klopp said: “It’s very difficult to talk to you if I’m 100 per cent honest, I would prefer not to do that. You know why, for all the things you wrote.”

The response drew widespread criticism of the Liverpool boss, and former Chelsea left-back Scott Minto compared the German to former United boss Ferguson.

"Things are not going well, that’s an understatement," Minto told TalkSPORT. “What I would say is, while you wouldn’t want it to happen and I don’t know what James has written in the past, clearly he’s written something that Klopp [doesn’t like]. James is able to write whatever he wants but Klopp is able to respond however he wants.

“Now, things like this only happen where there’s a crisis and I think there is a crisis at Liverpool, I think you’re right to use that word. But, the bottom line is Sir Alex Ferguson used to do this type of thing. He used to ban people, he would do what he wanted to do if he felt he needed a siege mentality.

“Klopp, I feel, is able to do whatever he wants to do and again he’s earned the right but what I would say is, does it actually help him? Because it’s a valid question, the bottom line is that was a good question.”
