Liverpool came agonisingly close to domestic glory last term, so Jurgen Klopp's side headed into the summer knowing that they only needed some minor fine-tuning to challenge again this year.
However, the landscape has changed dramatically at the summit of the Premier League over the course of the off-season; Manchester City have acquired one of Europe's deadliest strikers in Erling Haaland, while the rest of the top-flight's big guns have also been busy in the transfer market.
Klopp has not rested on his laurels and has refreshed his squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, and the Reds have a new-look attack following Sadio Mane's departure. But has the German boxed off everything he set out to achieve at the beginning of the summer? Here, Mirror Football takes a look...
Who were Liverpool linked with?
Join the debate! What have you made of Liverpool's transfer business this summer? Let us know here.
The Reds have been linked with a whole host of names during the months leading up to the end of the season, and some of that interest has come to fruition. Liverpool had been credited with an interest in the likes of Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez for months, and the former had even come close to a deadline day switch to Anfield back in January.
Aurelien Tchouameni was another name who was floated about regularly, while talk of a move for Jude Bellingham has also failed to materialise.
Kalvin Phillips was linked with a move to Merseyside once it became clear that he would be leaving Leeds United, while the Reds were also reported to be keeping tabs on former Bournemouth man Arnaut Danjuma, who has dazzled in Spain for Villarreal.
Who they have signed so far?
Liverpool splashed out on a deal that could eclipse £85million to make Nunez their new club-record signing after Mane was lured to Germany by Bayern Munich.
The Reds have also captured Carvalho, who is already being tipped for a big role on Merseyside after impressing in the Championship for Fulham, and young right-back Calvin Ramsey, who was on the books at Aberdeen.
However, perhaps the biggest deal Liverpool have pulled off this summer is tying Mohamed Salah down to a new long-term contract; something that has been at the top of their agenda for months. But the Reds talisman has finally ended speculation over his future by penning a bumper new deal.
Is there anyone left on their radar?
After splashing the cash on Nunez, Klopp has insisted that the Reds are done in the transfer market this summer - even though they appear to be short in midfield.
The Reds missed out on a deal for Tchouameni, who ended up joining Real Madrid shortly after Los Blancos shattered Liverpool's Champions League dreams.
It's since been reported that Liverpool have identified Bellingham as their top midfield target, however, the Borussia Dortmund starlet is thought to be unattainable right now. If Klopp has indeed determined that Bellingham is his man, then it's likely that the Liverpool chief will stick to his word and bide his time - particularly as he has already freshened up his squad.
