Jurgen Klopp reveals ‘not good’ Luis Diaz injury update as Liverpool winger suffers setback in Dubai

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Luis Diaz has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

The Colombian has been out of action since being forced off in early October in Liverpool’s defeat to Arsenal, but travelled with the squad to Dubai as they step up their preparations ahead of club football returning after the World Cup.

However, Diaz missed a couple of days of training due to discomfort and will play no part in Liverpool’s friendly match against Lyon this weekend, with Klopp giving an update on the situation.

“It’s all good [fitness-wise] with the boys who are here,” the Liverpool boss told the club’s official website.

“What’s not good is we have to see with Lucho. He felt something and we need to have further assessment there, but apart from that they all look really, really good.”

It’s believed the 25-year-old will now return to the UK for those assessments, with his involvement in the club’s fixtures at the end of the month potentially in doubt.

The Reds return to competitive action on December 22 in the Carabao Cup against Manchester City, before three Premier League games in the space of seven days against Aston Villa, Leicester and Brentford.

Diogo Jota continues his recovery from a hamstring injury, but is not expected to return until late January or early February next year.

It is better news in terms of Liverpool’s other forward options, with both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino rested after not being involved at the World Cup, while Darwin Nunez’s Uruguay were knocked out in the group stage.
