Jurgen Klopp reacts to Liverpool top four question after massive Leeds win

Jurgen Klopp has challenged his Liverpool players to build on their 6-1 demolition of Leeds United but claimed he is not thinking about the top-four race.

The Reds closed the gap on Newcastle in fourth to nine points with eight games left to play as they emphatically swept aside their hosts at Elland Road on Monday night.

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez scored either side of braces for Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah as Liverpool won their first game since the 7-0 hammering of Manchester United last month.

Klopp admits he does not know if a place in next term's Champions League is a realistic aim after what he described as "a really bad season" but the manager called on his squad to continue where they left off in Leeds when they host fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon at Anfield.

“The challenge now is to build on this," Klopp said. "I don’t know where it will lead to. It’s super important what happens from now on because if it goes on, there will be a next season.

"I have no clue where we will end up this season, it depends massively on other teams around us who can win all their games. We can’t do much about that.

“But what’s important now is what we showed in the second half against Arsenal. That could have gone either way but we reacted well and got the point which we deserved at least and tonight, super important that we really understand what we got here.

“We played a really bad season but some things are not really to explain and some definitely are and are not acceptable. We have to understand what is possible. I just want us to play top football and win games and we will see where we end up."
