Jurgen Klopp provides Diogo Jota injury update after Liverpool star stretchered off

Diogo Jota will miss Liverpool 's next match after he was forced off in Sunday's win at Anfield amid fears his injury could keep him out for longer.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Portuguese forward will be absent for the clash with West Ham United on Wednesday night. Jota was stretchered off in stoppage time during the win against Manchester City and the club now await for a full diagnosis to be done.

The Reds star has only started twice this term having returned to full fitness earlier in the season, but his latest setback will further hamper him and limit Klopp's options for what is a hectic period until the campaign breaks for the World Cup.

The Liverpool boss said: "We miss the next one with Diogo. He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is. If Diogo stays down it is not good." He also went on to add: "I saw it on the side on the screen, I am the first who saw it.

"When I saw he goes down and there was not a lot of contact, you can see a little bit that somebody kicks his foot and maybe the muscle got overstretched, 96 minutes, that’s not good for the muscle."

After they host the Hammers the games continue to come thick and fast for the Reds. They travel to Nottingham Forest, then Ajax and host Leeds United before welcoming Napoli to Merseyside - all in less than a fortnight as they attempt to get their league campaign back on track.

The win over City will give the team renewed belief after what had been a difficult start to the season. They were able to contain the champions, who did have a Phil Foden goal controversially disallowed, with Mohamed Salah netting the winner in front of the Kop after missing an earlier chance.

Klopp said on his forward: "Mo played an exceptional game. Absolutely outstanding. Yes, obviously he was one of two strikers in the centre together with Bobby. Great, an absolutely top performance. The goal was world-class. Again, a colleague of yours asked me if I think we were a bit lucky in that moment because [Joao] Cancelo missed the ball.

"I didn’t see a player missing the ball, I saw a player using his body extremely well and being there in the one-on-one situation with the goalie. So, a top-class goal. The situation immediately before was really unlucky that he didn’t score there already. Apart from that, good on the ball, a constant threat in behind, working extremely hard, an outstanding performance, honestly. It was really good."
