Jurgen Klopp proven right with his 2020 verdict on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp boasts a fantastic record against Arsenal. As a manager, Klopp has come up against the Gunners 23 times, losing just six of those meetings.

His record against Mikel Arteta isn't quite so emphatic. Klopp and Arteta have faced each other eight times in the dugout, with the Liverpool boss winning five of those and the Spaniard winning three. However, one of those victories for Arteta was a penalty shootout triumph, and the other was in the 2020 Community Shield.

While he's often got the better of both Arsenal and Arteta, Klopp has always been glowing in his praise of the Gunners and their boss. Even when the results weren't particularly good while Arsenal fans were being told to 'trust the process', the Liverpool manager always saw positives in Arteta's side.

At the beginning of the 2020/21 season, Klopp heaped praise on the Gunners. Arsenal had just come off the back of finishing eighth in the Premier League, but the German insisted that Arsenal would soon challenge again towards the top of the table.

"Mikel Arteta has shown in a pretty short period of time that he seems to be an exceptional football manager," said Klopp in September 2020. The team he sets up now - the structure of the team is absolutely exceptional.

"There is good organisation, but a freedom for the players as well. He uses the players in the right positions. I have to say, since he's been there, he's done a brilliant job.

"It looks like Arsenal will be proper challengers again."
