Jurgen Klopp predicts how Man City’s "massive blow" will impact Premier League title race

Jurgen Klopp believes Wednesday night's Champions League defeat at Real Madrid will have little to no impact on Manchester City's pursuit of the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's side currently sit at the top of the division - just a point ahead of Liverpool with four matches to go. It is poised to be a mouth-watering end to the season as both sides battle it out for the title.

While Liverpool are coming into this weekend's action with a 5-2 aggregate win over Villarreal, City will be looking to pick themselves back up after a dramatic semi-final exit in Madrid. The Citizens led by two-goals going into added-time but ended up conceding twice before Karim Benzema struck in extra-time.

Asked if it will have an adverse reaction or make them more focused, he said: "With all the things we know about City I would rather say the second, because they are too good. It was a massive blow, everyone was ready to switch the television off and then all of a sudden the second part started and that was really harsh I can imagine.

"City are good. It was a massive blow for them, that was really harsh. I've had nights like that, it's not cool, the next morning, not cool, but then there's a moment you have to focus. They will be ready for Newcastle on Sunday."

City continue their pursuit of a fourth Premier League title in five seasons when they host Newcastle United on Sunday. The Magpies have been in resurgent form under Eddie Howe, but did suffer a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Reds take on Champions League-chasing Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Saturday night. Antonio Conte's side got back on track in their hopes of a top-four finish with a 3-1 win over Leicester City.

This is the fourth trophy Liverpool could win this season after qualifying for the Champions League final, where they will face Real Madrid. He has declared Los Blancos as massive favourites for the competition.

"When we lost that final, my favourite solution would have been to play the final again next year and it's against Real Madrid," the German said. "That was in that moment. We faced Tottenham in Madrid. Madrid seems to be our destiny.

"It was strange and unlucky for City but what Madrid was outstanding. They got through against PSG, against Chelsea and against Man City. We said before when we played Villarreal, if you knock out Juventus and Bayern, you deserve to be in the semi-finals. If you knock out these three guys, you definitely deserve to be in the final."
